Dead Chuffed about New Zealand
Hello, I am a Canadian jazz vocalist living and working in Toronto. I’m writing to you about a little New Zealand miracle that has happened and it truly fascinates me.
Some background: I set up a MySpace page in October 2009 to promote the work of my jazz trio, promote our gigs in Toronto and area jazz clubs and at regional jazz festivals. There are some pictures of my trio and some music to listen to when people drop by the webpage as well. To my delight and surprise, I’ve found that the vast majority of visitors to the page are from New Zealand! Of course I am delighted about this but I have absolutely no idea how or why this has happened. I wonder if it’s because internet use in New Zealand is off the charts or some lovely people living in New Zealand interested in jazz, discovered my trio and have helped spread the word! I am terribly thrilled and a little amazed at how this has happened. I added a blog a few months ago to talk about upcoming performances and other bits of information.
My latest post is “Dead chuffed about New Zealand”. I hope you might read the blog, share it with the members of your jazz club and enjoy it. When I wrote this last post, the percentage of New Zealand visitors was at 45 per cent, but over the past few weeks it has risen to 70 per cent! It’s just another reminder of how small the world is that we live in and how the internet closes the gap of great distances.
Music is truly the universal language and I decided to do a little exploring on the internet myself to find out more about New Zealand jazz musicians. And so my email to the Wellington Jazz Club!
