NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010

by Maureen Jackson

Frank passed away on 29 March 2009. It might be of interest to the club that as a drummer he played at the Ngati Poneke for 2½ years when rock and roll was at its height. He then went on to play with Graham Kelly for 20 years until Graham became a member of parliament.

Frank then played with Ken Avery – recording an LP called “Jazz The Way It Used To Be”. We used to go up to the Tauranga Jazz Festival where they played as the Darktown Strutters. Frank also played with the Valley Stompers and could have been the drummer in your photo in the January newsletter (page 10).
