David Feehan Band will bring you some great jazz standards mixed with a smattering of contemporary jazz.

David Feehan - At 70 most singers could be forgiven for hanging up their boots and having a well earned rest. At 70 David is still extremely active in the music industry both as a performer and songwriter; and as a producer, vocal teacher and business advisor for musicians.
With his new album “5” leaping into the New Zealand Album Charts on release last October at number 10, then staying there for 7 weeks, David and his band have been well sought after ever since so rather than taking a break, he is now more involved in music performance than ever.
David has toured extensively both with Rodger Fox and as a solo artist; performed in most of NZs top TV Shows and all over New Zealand; in Singapore, Australia, China and Hong Kong, Montreux Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts and the 100 Club in London, a tour of Poland and Canada; New York (including recording in Vanguard Studios), France, Italy, Chicago, San Diego, LA (including recording in Capitol Recording Studios) , plus appearing with Buena Vista Social Club in Havana. He has sung for the Queen, the Queen; also appeared as Jesus in “Jesus Christ Super Star’ to critical acclaim, and on top of that has recorded and appeared on over 25 albums besides the 5 albums he has released to date, (“Ballade” in 1986, “DF” in 1990, “Bronze” in 2008, “Cuatro” in 2015 and “5” in October 2018.)
Throughout his career David has attracted the finest local musicians to perform with and has also gained a big reputation performing with overseas musicians visiting these shores. He has also taught a huge number of now leading vocalists in New Zealand and prides himself on giving back to the music community after over 60 years of live performances, producing and putting on two Singers Concerts each year since he first started them in 1998 to give budding vocalists a chance to sing with a top band and prepare them for the next step up. On top of that David has taught at Te Wananga O Aotearoa, Whitireia, Massey and NZSM, tutoring in both vocals and in Business.
When David last performed for us, he played 2 sets of contemporary jazz/blues/R&B/Soul to a full house.
This time he will be with his smaller band, plus Wellington jazz singer, Dawn Elder, bringing you a great selection of well-known jazz standards that you will identify with immediately and that will have your toes tapping. This promises to be an afternoon to remember. We know you are going to enjoy David and Dawn and the rest of the smaller David Feehan Band as they bring to you some great jazz standards mixed with a smattering of contemporary jazz.
For this concert David will be joined on stage by the following fine musicians:-
Dawn Elder; Vocals
From a young age growing up in Gore, Dawn Elder has had a love affair with music, and in particular, jazz vocals, performing in Medical School Reviews as well as local Folk and Music Clubs.
and Music Clubs. Guesting with the David Feehan Band at various concerts including Wellington Jazz Club, Te Papa, and the Martinborough Jazz Festival, plus co-hosting the Tuscany Project team in a fantastic vocal workshop in Nelson, Dawn has released her second album “As Prescribed” to critical acclaim – a mixture of jazz standards, and with Dawn’s jazz versions of some contemporary vocals, often featuring cello and acoustic guitar.
Dawn joins us here today not only as David’s guest but as a singer in her own right, with two albums under her belt and a voice to ignite those wonderful those wonderful jazz standards she fell in love with all those jazz standards she fell in love with all those years ago.
Daniel Hayles; Keys
Having completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in jazz piano (PGDipMus) at the New Zealand School Of Music, Daniel currently performs with such wide-ranging and prominent acts as Lord Echo (including 2016, 2017 and 2018 tours in Japan, WOMAD 2017, WOMADelaide 2019), Louis Baker, Hollie Smith (including on her number one album Water Or Gold), and Myele Manzanza & The Eclectic (Ulsan World Music Festival in South Korea, WOMAD and WOMADelaide 2015), as well as exciting local groups like Richter City Rebels, Gold Nugget Pawn Shop and JB3.

He is in his third year as an Artist Teacher at the NZSM at Victoria University, Wellington, teaching jazz combo, vocal ensemble and big band as well as guest lecturing in subjects of arranging, engraving and composition. He was also the outstanding keyboardist on Dawn Elders 2nd Album, “AS Prescribed.”
Jeremy Richardson; Drums: Jeremy’s first instrument was the cornet, and music for him started with playing in the brass band with his parents and brother ever since he could remember. Later at the age of around 10 he was really drawn to the drums, self-taught for a couple of years until he started getting lessons in high school, being part of many high school bands before attending Te Koki- New Zealand School of Music.
He graduated with his music degree from NZSM and is since seen playing in many top Wellington bands including David Feehan Band where he has had the drum chair for three years now. His versatility is amazing from the quietest jazz pieces to the most full on rock and everything in between. He is also the resident drummer for the RNZAF Band, and played on David latest album “5”.
Paul Mouncey: Bass: Paul began learning bass, guitar and drums whilst at Logan Park High School, Dunedin. He studied Double Bass at Massey University, Wellington, graduating in 2002 with a BMus(performance).
Paul was with the top band Odessa and is a regular performer in Wellington, both with the David Feehan Band and many other top local bands. Paul is equally at home playing rock, funk, latin or jazz, and on either double or electric bass and along with Jeremy, formed the stunning “engine room” for Davids “5” album.
Andre Paris: Saxophone: Originally from Auckland, Andre has been involved with music since picking up the alto saxophone at age 9. During his school years he was a member of the Aotea Youth Symphony and Queen City Big Band, performed with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra as well as winning Most Outstanding Saxophonist at the annual Tauranga jazz festival.
Completing a BMus from Massey University in Wellington, Andre has been involved in Wellington as a saxophonist and teacher, playing in small group jazz, big bands, dance/wedding bands, salsa, original dub/reggae groups, musicals and concert band music. Andre is also currently involved with the Central Band of the RNZAF and has performed with many of New Zealand’s top artists including John Rowles, the Yandall Sisters and Jackie Clarke as well as playing saxes, flute and clarinet in the David Feehan Band.
Chris Fox: Trombone Chris has been playing with the David Feehan Band (and before that, Tapestry) for years and is an integral part of the David Feehan horn section. Part of the Rodger Fox Big Band, Chris and David grew in music together in Jazz through their time together playing all over the world and throughout New Zealand.
Chris has also been heavily active in Brass Bands in Porirua with the Fox family and has a high reputation as a top trombonist, releasing his own CD as well as being a mainstay of all the Rodger Fox Big Band and the five David Feehan albums. He has played with Johnny Mathis, Kurt Elling, Patti Austin and Arturo Sandaval, to name just a few and like David has also recorded at Capitol Recording Studios in LA.
